TikTok ratings fall as netizens call for banned. TikTok is India's fastest-growing app but its problems are also growing fast. In the latest turn of events, the app is being down rated by users for promoting harmful content.
It all started with Indian YouTuber CarryMinati's video pitching short-form content creation on TikTok versus long-form videos on YouTube. In a viral video titled ‘YouTube vs TikTok: The End’, the popular YouTuber, who has 18 million subscribers, called out TikTok creators for plagiarising content from YouTube, among other things. TikTok has now snowballed into a controversy
YouTube was eventually forced to take down the video as a social media war erupted between TikTok fans and YouTubers. Not only has the incident polarised social media, but it has also severely impacted TikTok's app store ratings.
In less than a week, the app has been downrated from 4.6 to 2, with several Indian users calling for a ban and trending #TikTokBan and #TikTokExposed on social media. TikTok Lite has been hit even more, with its Play Store ratings dropping to 1.1. The ByteDance-owned platform is also under fire for its weak content moderation policies, which allows sharing of harmful and abusive videos.
Many TikTok influencers have invited the wrath of social media users for promoting acid attacks on women, rape, misogyny, and other problematic content. Some of these videos go on to record more than a million views, thus amplifying the root problem. National Commission of Women Chairman Rekha Sharma has called the Indian government for a complete ban on TikTok for promoting objectionable content and leaving a negative impact on the youth.
Of course, Yes it should be banned as there are several reasons for it.
it promotes sexual content

it promotes sexual content
It diverts the mindset of young, enthusiastic people into an app..
it spoils the future of Young Fellow Indians… who can achieve a lot if they are not entangled in the web of TikTok.
It is an Chinese app. So, there is always a threat of Privacy.
The most important reason is the hypocrisy of TEAM NAWAB’S member (AAMIR) ..At first he was eagerly waiting for Carry Minati’s roast on him and after Carry roasted him he supported him by putting a story on hitting like on Carry’s YouTube video and now he flipped the sides and spreading wrong message by using #aamiraganistcyberbullying (Yep, the spelling of against was wrong in his campaign). This all lead to a massive brainwashing of fellow normal Low class tiktokers to report and take down the Carry’s video.
As on date, there is strong wind blowing against Tiktok India and it was trending on twitter with more than 10000 tweets with a hashtag to Ban Tiktok India. Prominent Figure like Rekha Sharma, the chairperson of National Commission for Women has been vocal about Tiktok Ban .

Tiktok was already once banned in India by Madras High Court and GOI during 2019 , after it was found that Tiktok was hosting content related to child pornography . After that Tiktok was not available for download in Google Play store and Apple too , for quite a few days .
TikTok ban in India: What is govt order, why you can't download TikTok now and everything else you need to know
After the case was presented in the Madras High Court, there were reports that the Arnataka State Commission for Women is planning to submit a writ appeal to the Supreme Court to ban the usage of the app. Nagalakshmi Bai, the head of the Commission, was quoted as saying, “Tik-Tok is used by everyone and it encourages pornography. The videos that children using the app make are overtly sexual in nature, which is a reason for concern. We are worried about the ill-effects the app could have on young minds. Recently, there were incidents in Bengaluru and Mumbai involving children, where a teenage boy sexually assaulted his younger sister. Apps like these are a reason that women are objectified.”
In a court filing, requesting the Supreme Court to quash the directive of the High Court, the company reportedly said, “A ban amounts to curtailing of the rights of the citizens of India...who have been using the platform everyday to express themselves and create content.” “very minuscule proportion of its content was considered inappropriate or obscene.’’ They said they removed over six million videos in India that have violated its community guidelines since July last year. “This is part of TikTok’s ongoing efforts to make its millions of users feel safe and comfortable within the community by empowering them with the right tools and resources” .
On 25 April 2019, the ban was lifted after a court in Tamil Nadu reversed its order of prohibiting downloads of the app from the App Store and Google Play, following a plea from TikTok developer Bytedance Technology.I
Its noteworthy that Tiktok was not only banned in India. It was banned in Indonesia ( lifted after 8days), it is banned in Bangladesh too . In the west , there is serious allegations of national security concern on Tiktok .

TikTok suspected of being a national security threat: here’s why
Alongwith all those, there is constant criticism about Tiktok on the topic of Cyber Bullying , Addiction Concern and foremost the user privacy !
But but but..
In spite of all these , do you know how successful the Idea of Tiktok ( Previously Musicaly) is?
Lets go through some stats-
Tiktok as on April 20 , has 800 Million + active users and the numbers are growing with every minute ! Its more than the size of a country and Tiktok managed it just over a span of 3 years !! Unbelievable , isn’t it? Tiktok has even crossed many platforms like Twitter , LinkedIn ( which are quite older !)
Take a guess on the numbers of Indian User?? It stands at 119 Million active users ( with more than 280 million downloads). And that means among each 10 Indians you can find one tiktoker!! Thats why in pre corona period, you may have noticed in every park , mall , even at airport or station, some people are dancing or blabbering ..If you have thought that they are crazy, then you may b wrong ! They are just tiktokers..
Tiktok is the most downloaded app in the last year in the whole fucking world!
Tiktok has the highest younth involvement and almost 41% of its users are teenagers ( 16–24 years) .
Tiktok has conquered 155 countries!
By October 2018, TikTok was earning $3.5 million per month from in-app purchases, such as emojis and digital gifts. With the introduction of the formal advertising market, it is likely that TikTok's income is now considerably higher than this . In the last FY , Tiktok India reported a profit of 3.5 crores. It is targeting 100 crore revenue in India by Sept’20. Its revenue is literally exploding -
From all those stats, it is clear that Tiktok is much more than what we have thought it of! With this much of involvement of public emotions to this App, banning it is quite hard-specially from legal point of view , as per current IT law . Moreover , if its so evil and should be banned, how come it has become so popular . Lets talk about Indian point of view. In India it is very popular in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities , deep inside the villages too. Now almost all major Bollywood celebs are into tiktok.
Specially due to its ease of use and amusing contents has driven a lots of users. It has also given lacs of people a way of utilizing their free time and they are finding themselves worthy . May be deep inside most of us , there has been an inherent desire to be a dancer/singer/actor or celeb; tiktok is perfectly doing that . It has so brilliantly used Artificial Intelligence to ensure that its showing the things you basically like . The content creators when the got the popular tag , are earning handsome too . Somehow, many people , who always felt left down , are finding a way to fantasize themselves in a fairy tale , they wanted to be in always . No matter how pathetic, the quality of some content is , somehow they are finding a way to go to people’s heart and it gives them a very personal correlation .
Indeed, there is a lot to do in the censorship of contents by Tiktok and also in the field of users privacy. The abusive content must not at all be published . But banning it , is really that a solution?? After all such kind of things are running in all kind of social platform..
I left it to you to think and decide..Should Tiktok be banned in India?
PS-Though I am not a content creator in Tiktok , nor in youtube ; I follow both the app and I have both the app installed in my mobile. Comparing youtube with tiktok is , I believe, comparing a meal with a candy -one is for fulfilling your hunger, other is mouth freshener!
And many people I know, close to me are making tiktok contents and they are just happy with it !!
