A formula to growing the audience of your designer. As I mentions in the overtime episode of today, it is a key duty of yourself to present yourself online, apart from building a portfolio. You don't exist anymore if you're not online. Now, you should possibly also want to promote an online follow-up if you have started to develop your portfolio. We sat down in Dublin with Al Power, a product maker, to help designers grow their social audiences. The key steps to be taken are:
❤️ Be Passionate
"Anything in life applies. You need dedication and enthusiasm to be productive. Don't worry about uploading work which you feel may be a little beyond your comfort zone. You are safe when you design. You are nervous. You are growing and developing, putting yourself out there."
🎨 Find your style
"In my early work as an illustrator I received this advice and I didn't know what it was. As I improved over time, I realized I had my own unique style established. I say unique because I know there's a million designers with a similar style out there. I guess this isn't about having a unique style, but about making yours comfortable and trendy, even if it's not original.
🏆 Set Goals
“This is another statement that applies to anything in life. Set goals. Without clear goals, you’ll struggle to feel any great achievement.”
👨💻 Learn about social platforms
“Do your best to learn about the social platforms you’re using. Figure out when it is best to post and what is best to post. Posting every day will get you more traction, and always attach an image. It’s all about maximizing your reach.”
📤 Share your work
"Everywhere you can, share your work — Dribbble, Facebook, Twitter. I have noticed also that writing articles about your work and process allows you to trust, but also to get your name
